Despite the fact that Lexus is no longer the luxury car leader in the United States, it refuses to do what the Germans did by putting out a sub-$30,000 entry luxury vehicle.
While Mercedes-Benz already managed to attract more young drivers with its $29,900 CLA model and Audi will try to do that too by releasing the A3 sedan at a similar price in the future, Lexus thinks this strategy is not the way they are pursuing.
“Some of our competitors have gone down below $30,000,” Lexus division vice president Jeff Bracken said in an interview with Bloomberg recently. “For Lexus, we won’t be doing that. That is not part of our strategy.”
And I think Lexus is right with its choice, simply because the standard under-$30,000 CLA still needs some packs to make it a truly luxury vehicle. Yes, it has that look-at-me factor, but if you’re searching for luxury, the $36,470 comes with all the goodies that you have to pay extra in a CLA, plus the proper rear leg room and more luggage space.
