Japanese luxury automaker Lexus has made it its main goal to take the fight to the Germans, especially to BMW, who is mostly know for its dynamic vehicles. Wannabe companies are nothing new in the auto industry, but Lexus isn't that any more. Just one month after it new BMW M3 and M4 comes out, the Japanese will come out with their own answer to the compact performance question.
This teaser photo previews a new F model, which will make its official debut at the North American (Detroit) Auto Show in January.
not much can be deduced from these photos, but Lexus has dropped the fact that 19-inch wheels are on display, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires. They say some of the body panels are carbon fiber and stopping power is ensured by Brembo.
We looked at the headlights of all the Lexus small and medium sedans (even made mugshots below) and we can conclude these lights belong to the new RC sports coupe, a rival to the 4 Series we recently tested.
The number of doors and the somewhat bold design are the only similarities between the M4 and RC F. That's because Lexus is sticking to older technology. Power will come from a 5-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, while the Germans will offer a 3-liter multi-turbo with slightly less power, about 430 hp.
Should that bother us? Well no, not if the IS 350 is anything to go by. The auto industry desperately needs a fast coupe with good reliability and bold looks. Don't believe us? Just watch our video of the RC F testing at the Nurburgring and tell what you think.
