Lexus Recalls 9,400 2010 GX 460

What started as a Consumer Reports (CR) advice not to buy the Lexus GX 460 has turned into yet another nightmare for Japanese carmaker Toyota. Although the 9,400 models Lexus will recall to fix the software in the vehicle’s Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system are nothing compared to the millions of cars recalled due to the sticky accelerator pedal, this new development adds more pressure on an already quality-challenged manufacturer.

After yesterday Toyota announced it has duplicated the effects of the CR test, the announcement of the official recall was made:

"Today, I’m happy to announce that we have developed a remedy that will be quickly implemented to help address customer concerns. We will be voluntarily recalling all 2010 GX 460s that have been sold in order to update the Vehicle Stability Control system." Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager said in a release.

“From the moment we heard about this issue, Lexus and our dealers acted quickly to resolve the situation. Our dealers will now personally reach out to customers to set up appointments to make this modification. Lexus has always been about providing exemplary customer satisfaction and this will be another opportunity to demonstrate that.”

Toyota says it has already pinpointed the issue and found the right fix for the problem. The fix will be applied starting May, while drivers who will have to turn in their cars will be provided with a replacement until the matter is solved.
