A couple of weeks ago, we said the RC F could be the coolest Lexus of all time. Now the car has been revealed ahead of the Detroit Auto Show debut and it's time to find out of we were right.
Heralded into the world as "most powerful V8 performance car ever developed by Lexus", the performance coupe packs a big 5-liter V8, just like the IS F had. But power has been boosted considerably, to 460 hp.
That makes it quite a bit more powerful than the new BMW M3 and on basically on par with the C63 AMG, which has 451 hp. Power doesn't necessarily make the Lexus a cooler car, but it does give it bragging rights.
While the o to 100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds isn't spectacular, it's still valid performance and the car redeems itself with excellent styling. You're unlikely to ever see another model designed this way from another manufacturer, which makes this a viable alternative to the Germans. After all, what is a performance coupe good for if not standing out in a crowd.
Large alloy wheels and typical stacked exhaust pipes that F models are know for will ensure this car gets you noticed. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, we think the front end design is a winner, with that huge spindle grille creating the right impression.
The only make or break factor left unknown is the price, which we hope will stay in the $60,000 region.
