Lexus GS-F Reportedly Coming in 2012

Ever since the world automotive press first laid eyes on the stunning Lexus LF-Gh Concept in New York, all it could think about is that this is the shape of future GS models, and even though the concept is a hybrid, what really captures the imagination is a range-topping GS-F model.

The performance sedan is likely coming, though probably not with the Lexus LFA's 552 hp, 4.8-liter V10, as the unit will cost "far more than half the price" of the GS-F, according to Motor Trend sources. The likely answer is the still potent 5.0-liter 416 hp V8 in the IS-F, which could be tickled to produce a bit more power.

Lexus is clearly not focused on performance, as the IS-F was always more of an engineer’s wet dream than a general direction for the company’s products, but Toyota’s luxury division still needs extra meat on its performance lineup’s bones. The Japanese carmaker chose not to preview the 2012 GS with a performance version, but with the hybrid LF-Gh concept, shown at the New York show instead.

With the new concept, Lexus tried to redefine what they call L-Finesse, the luxury brand's design philosophy ever since 2001. Unique LED headlamps and independent L-shaped LED daytime running lights make up the face of the new hybrid sedan. The black front grille extends the menacing look of the model all the way to the back with the help of the dark tinted windows.

"Although only a concept, we hope the LF-Gh will resonate with our customers worldwide, and communicate our intention to once again advance ideas about the face of Lexus luxury in the years to come," said Kengo Matsumoto, general manager, Lexus Design Division.
