According to a top Lexus executive, the luxury automaker is expecting to set a global sales record of more than 520,000 units this year.

Lexus executive vice president Mark Templin said recently that worldwide sales would be around 520,000, outscoring the automaker’s peak in 2007 with 518,000.

Moreover, Lexus’ volume is expected to expand rapidly in the next couple of years as the US market demand is recovering and the brand is adding product. This year, US sales are expected to rise around 270,000 units, still a bit behind their peak of 329,177 in 2007.

"There's no reason for us to think they won't surpass that as the market grows back to the kind of levels we had in 2007,” Templin said. "And it should grow beyond that."
