One of the custom car moves that has really followed an ascending trend in the last few years includes wrapping your ride in a matte black foil. More and more vehicles that belong to various segments and come in stock or modified incarnations receive this kind of treatment.

Offering your car such a gift should be a pretty simple move. However, it seems like sometimes things can get a little bit complicated. We are talking about a ES 350 that comes with a special story (we must thank clublexus.com and lexusenthusiast.com for publishing it). But before we get to the social sides, let’s see how the vehicle completed its journey from light blue to matte black.

The material used for the job is the 3M 1080-12M mate black. The owner says that this was recommended by professionals at the SEMA event, who claim that it uses more efficient micro air release pockets, compared to the previous developments.

The process took approximately 30 hours to complete, with the result being a perfect finish, even in the difficult areas. However, it seems like the vehicle won’t keep its new coat. The explanation? The wrapping was a gift for someone’s wife (it’s her car) and now she and her two daughters are asking for the 3M goodie to be removed.

Here’s how the poster of the story describes the experience: “Results: looks very detailed and professional, awesome look for guys, awful for girls. Actually this was a surprise gift for my wife (it’s her car) but both her and our two girl kids are already begging me to remove it from their car. They didn’t like their previous light blue but seem to hate the matte black. I can’t comprehend why anyone wouldn’t love this look, they can’t comprehend what guys see in it. Go figure…
