Japanese manufacturer Toyota announced today the release of a new version of the Enform telematics system for its luxury division Lexus, intended for mobile phones. From now on, owners of iPhone, iPod touch, Android and RIM BlackBerry phones can use Enform to go about their daily business.
The Enform Mobile features eDestination Mobile (search for points of interest and addresses and save them to the car), Customer Assistance Center, a dealer locator and the mobile version of the Lexus.com website.
The eDestination feature allows Lexus drivers to go online and organize destinations of their choice and then send them wirelessly to their vehicle. After deciding on the destination, the user simply selects “save to vehicle” and their personalized destinations will be available to load into the vehicle’s navigation system upon the next start up.
The system allows users to save and sort destinations in up to 20 folders, each holding as many as 10 destinations, while up to 200 locations can be uploaded at a time in the vehicles.
Lexus Enform also provides the platform for XM Sports (game results and schedule for up to five personally selected national league sports teams) and Stocks (data for up to 10 personally selected stocks). The use of these two features, however, require separate subscription.
The Enform works in conjunction with the telematics system featured on the carmaker's vehicles, Safety Connect. It is also integrated with the optional Lexus Insider, a technology which offers in-vehicle audio casts that provide owners access to useful vehicle tips and event information.
