Lexus CT 200h Coming to Japan

Toyota’s luxury division, Lexus, has added the new CT 200h hybrid to its Japanese model line-up. The carmaker hopes the model will help boost sluggish sales in its domestic market. Orignially designed for the European market, the CT 200h was also introduced to North American and Chinese customers, with more countries soon to follow.

The five-door hybrid model is the cheapest model on offer from Lexus in Japan, costing from JPY3.55 million to JPY4.33 million ($42,780 to $52,180). We would like to mention that the model comes with a $29,120 (JPY 2.41 million) pricetag, plus $875 (JPY72,626) for delivery, processing and handling, for the American market.

The hybrid makes use of a 1.8-liter petrol engine that in conjunction with an electric motor. The powertrain is rated at 134 hp (100 kW) and allows the CT 200h to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 10.3 seconds. The electric motor works in tandem with the petrol engine to boost acceleration and power the driven wheels alone when the Lexus CT 200h is operating in EV mode. Lexus said that using the official test cycle of the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the CT 200h returned a fuel efficiency of 34 km/lt (79.9 mpg US or 2.9 l/100km).

Features like SmartAccess with push-button Start/Stop and touch sensors on exterior front-door handles come as standard. In America, it is also equipped with leather steering wheel, a six-speaker, audio system with a CD player, and Bluetooth, integrated satellite radio receiver (with a complimentary 90-day trial subscription), USB/iPod connectivity, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels and dual zone automatic climate control.

The carmaker stated that it is targeting a monthly sales figure of 1,500 units in Japan.
