Let's Remember the 2002 Mercedes S55 AMG

It's pretty obvious to any Mercedes fan right now that the company has changed. Yes, it's become a global brand that also makes rivals for the VW Golf , sells cars in china and gives us that amazing SLS AMG, but it's also lost some of its class.
From an era when you couldn't have the S-Class with a badge the size of your head comes the totally elegant S55 AMG. Obviously, older cars look more classy because we've been looking at them for longer and have grown accustomed to their proportions, but the uber-S from more than a decade ago has no flares, no wings, no carbon fiber and especially no crazy grille.

This evocative video from Mercedes themselves reminds us what the company used to be about. 500 horsepower took the biggest sedan with a three-pointed star from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Not too shabby considering it's only got a 5.5-liter V8.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
