Audis, Astons and Ferraris - all will show their endurance credentials this weekend, this time on British soil. The Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and Le Mans Series are preparing for the 2011 Autosport 6 Hours of Silverstone this weekend, on September 9th to 11th, and this promises to be a spectacular weekend of racing.
Britain’s mast famous racing circuit will see 210mph diesel-powered sports prototypes mixing it up on the same field of 45 cars as Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lola, Lotus, Peugeot, Porsche and others.
There’s plenty of British divers in the mix, and three-time Silverstone winner Allan McNish is likely to be among the favorites. The Audi factory driver made headlines, but not in a good way, as he was involved in a crash n the opening stages of the Le Mans 24 Hours and has set his sights on another Silverstone victory to put his season back on track.
“The goal is clearly to win, we need to get some more points for the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup to keep in the fight and I personally would like a fourth Silverstone victory,” said McNish, who will share his Audi R18 with 8-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen.
Gulf Oil will bring back the Astons in their traditional blue and orange color combo. The Aston Martin’s howling V12 petrol engine makes a sharp contrast to the whisper-quiet diesels of Peugeot and Audi, and joins Lola, Pescarolo and Zytek in upholding petrol-powered honours in the senior class.
