Last Buell Goes to Barber Motorsports Museum

Despite what some might have thought, the last Buell motorcycle that rolled off the assembly line at the end of October was not sold to a customer, but has been donated to the Barber Motorsports Museum in Leeds, Alabama. The model in question is, as we said in a previous report, a 2010 Buell Lightning XB12Scg that will join several other representative models from the company's 26-year production history in the museum’s exhibit.

A total of 12 motorcycles were donated to the collection, including a 1996 S3T Thunderbolt, a 1999 X1 Lightning, several clay model prototype mock-ups, and a pair of modified motorcycles used by stunt riders Craig Jones and Bubba Blackwell.

"We're very pleased to be able to add to the Barber Museum's already extensive collection of Buell motorcycles, and hope that the many motorcycle enthusiasts who visit their museum will enjoy seeing these motorcycles along with the rest in their fine collection," Jon Flickinger, President and Chief Operating Officer of Buell Motorcycle Company, said in a release.

The Buell name, however, did not reach the end of the line yet. In a statement made last month by Harley-Davidson, Erik Buell, Chairman and Chief Technical Officer of Buell Motorcycle Company, left company to establish Erik Buell Racing, an independent motorcycle race shop.

The newly born company will be based in East Troy, Wisconsin, and will specialize in the supply of race-use-only Buell motorcycle parts and race preparation services for engines and motorcycles.

Moreover, Erik Buell Racing will take responsibility in building and sale of Buell 1125R-based race-use-only motorcycles under license from Harley-Davidson, as well as providing technical support to racers of Buell motorcycles.
