Reports suggest that Sathosa Motors PLC will invest $1 million to set up an assembly plant for Land Rover Defenders in Hambantota, Sri Lanka.
The plant’s assembly is already in progress and machinery required will be brought from the UK. Also, production will be assisted by British Land Rover engineers, to make sure everything will be constructed at top notch quality.

SML Frontier Automotive is a 50-50 partnership between Sathosa motors and Sheran Fernando, a local agent of Land Rover, making it the only distributor and after sales provider for Land Rover in Sri Lanka.

The bond between the two countries is pretty strong, as Land Rover has been providing vehicles for Sri Lanka’s army for the past 50 years, making the off-roaders the vehicles of choice for the troops.
