Welcome to the present time, when the world of drag racing has a record for SUVs. And that accolade isn't just there for the sake of it - these days, super-SUVs are as quick as supercars. And the said record has recently fallen, with the Lamborghini Urus grabbing the accolade from the Tesla Model X.
A stock incarnation of the Sant'Agata Bolognese machine recently duked it out with a Model X P100D (the electric toy also came in factory condition).
The go-fast behemoths got together at the Palm Beach International Raceway and since their drivers were determined to see which one is quicker, they battled on four different occasions.
You see, the first three fights involved the classic standing quarter-mile recipe, while the fourth saw the SUVs using a rolling start.
The Palo Alto toy and the Italian monster are extremely close in terms of performance, so it was the driver's reaction time that determined the winner of the visual race. As for the actual winner, keep in mind that we have to rely on the figures delivered at the end of the run and the clock doesn't start ticking until the car leaves the starting line.
Fortunately, the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which documents the brawl, includes all the numbers you could wish for, from the specs of the vehicles to the 1,320-feet sprint stats.
Throwing a spoiler at you, we'll mention that the Lamborghini Urus set a new production SUV quarter-mile world record, completing the 1/4-mile task in 11.2s at 120 mph - note that tuners are already playing with the Raging Bull.
And with the video including both in-car and exterior footage, you'll get a complete take on this velocity encounter.
P.S.: Note that the racing action we discussed kicks off at the 5:39 point of the video below, with the part that comes before this being the usual YouTube preparation chit-chat.
