Lamborghini SUV to Use Next-Generation Porsche Cayenne Platform

The Internet has been flooded with unofficial reports indicating that Lamborghini is working on a new SUV that would bring back the spirit of the 1980s’ LM002. Well, guess what? There’s a new one!

As you know, the Raging Bull has an obsession with offering a strong personality for every vehicle that leaves its factory and the SUV should be no exception. Lamborghini is a member of the Volkswagen Group, so the company will use know-how from sister brands in order to develop its new SUV, as autoexpress writes.

The Italians could rely on a platform that is being developed by Porsche for the next-generation Panamera and Cayenne. The investment would really make sense, as Lambo could also use it for the production version of the Estoque four-door saloon.

Such a development pathway would also allow Lamborghini to enter a segment of the market that is untouched by Ferrari, which has repeatedly confirmed that it wouldn’t build an SUV.

Ferrari can’t follow into this market, because it has no links to SUVs at all,” a company source was quoted as saying by autoexpress. “Lamborghini is entirely credible as an SUV maker, but it can’t do it alone. And as Porsche has shown it already knows how to do it, it makes sense that they work together."

In order to predict the commercial future of the model, we can take a look in Porsche’s yard, where the Cayenne has helped the company avoid financial trouble. Of course, we are talking about Lamborghini, so things will happen at a different scale, but the trend should be the same.
