Lamborghini China Sales Grow to 29 Cars

Italian sports carmaker Lamborghini is becoming more popular in China, a country in which it improved its first half of the year figures by 32 percent to no less than 29 units. However, the company is still affected by the recession at global level, as sales, revenues and profits dropped in almost every single country.

Getting back to China, Lamborghini experienced an impressive growth in this side of the market, after selling only eight cars in the country in 2006. Nevertheless, in 2007 figures grew to 28 units while in 2008 it reached a record 72 sold cars in the whole year.

Worldwide, the first-half revenues for Lamborghini dropped 43.4 percent, to $223.7 million. In the January - June timeframe, the Italian carmaker delivered 825 cars, with the biggest decline being registered in the US. There, sales fell by 52 percent, amounting to 207 units. European markets including Italy and Switzerland remained at the 2008 levels, while the only region to register increase was, obviously, China.

"We are not immune to the global recession," Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said in a statement, quoted by the source, "We will maintain the profitability of the company, and continue our investment into the future with product technology and innovation alongside a firm ecological stance."

As for the models offered by Lamborghini, the Italian manufacturer is preparing to present the Reventon Roadster, with some voices hinting the first public appearance of the car might take place next month at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Still, there's nothing confirmed at this point, so we're still waiting for an official press release.
