LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1 Race at Silverstone, Lap Times Included

When a Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1 meet at the Silverstone track, this is enough reason for us to open the champagne bottle before any of the hybrid hypercar sets a wheel on the famous circuit. Nevertheless, there’s much more to this battle than that.

We’ve seen these petrol-electric demons battle before, but, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time when all three go at it together against the clock.

Ferrari doesn’t approve of its pride and joy taking part in instrumented comparison tests against its two main rivals, which is why they don’t allow customers to enter their cars in such races. They might provide a factory car for such a purpose, but who can trust such a purpose-supplied vehicle?

We’re not sure whether this is the case or not in the clip below, but we can tell you the LaF, the 918 and the P1 duked it out on the British tarmac. The clip you have below is a teaser for the race video, the first of the three we’ll be treated with until the real deal arrives sometime in November.

The footage allows us to see all three cars playing from one vibrator to another together, as well as offering us a few individual shots with delicious telemetry data included.

However, you don’t have to wait until November to talk about how different these three machines are. The LaFerrari has a playful chassis, acting like a bigger 458 that explores RWD pleasures all the time.

As for the McLaren P1, this finds itself at the opposite end of the driving character scale, willing to grip and grip some more in search of the ultimate lap time.

The Porsche follows the brand’s intoxicatingly precise handling, but in a hybrid all-wheel-drive form.

So many teasers planned for a video released in 2015 does seem like an outdated plan, but since we’re talking about such a final result, we’ll be patient.
