Now that the Bugatti Veyron has aged, it seems everybody wants a piece of it. From modern hypercars to old-but-tuned BMW M5s, many contraptions have shown they can beat Ferdinand Piech’s ambition mobile now that both the man and the machine have stepped down.
But what if we are to pit the original Veyron against a hypercar from its own time? Something like a Koenigsegg CCXR should do the trick.
Both the Bugatti and the CCXR in the clip below came to the world in 2008, with the two racing on an airfield as part of a hypercar event covering Europe.
As if the battle wasn’t cool enough, the Veyron was driven by none other than Christian von Koenigsegg himself. Then again, the Swered wasn’t exactly treated with a displeasing view (we’ll say no more, as we don’t want to spoil the fun of the clip).
Unlike the Veyron, the CCXR is rear-wheel drive, which meant the two senior hypercars chose the rolling start way in order to verify which one is the faster contraption.
As for the Veyron, its quad-turbo 8-liter W16 places 1,001 PS and 1,250 Nm (922 lb-ft) at the mercy of the driver’s right foot.
And while the output figures might indicate similar sprinting performance, we have to explain the weight makes the difference here. While the Swedish machine tips the scales at under 1,300 kg (2,860 lbs), the VW Group’s pearl climbs all the way to over 1,900 kg (4,200 lbs).
Truth be told, none of the two has a soundtrack worthy of their performance and yet we can help but enjoy the aural side of the video.

Time to talk numbers. (Still) huge numbers
At the center of the Koenigsegg CCXR, we find a 4.7-liter V8 that uses twin-turbocharging, allowing the driver to control 1,018 PS and a peak torque of 1.060 Nm (782 lb-ft).As for the Veyron, its quad-turbo 8-liter W16 places 1,001 PS and 1,250 Nm (922 lb-ft) at the mercy of the driver’s right foot.
