Kuipers to Drive Ford Fiesta RS WRC in 2011

Dutch rally driver Dennis Kuipers must be one happy man these days, as he just found out that he will drive the brand new Ford Fiesta RS WRC in 10 rounds of the upcoming World Rally Championship season. He won't do it for Ford's works team or its satellite in the series M-Sport Stobart, but for Dutch outfit Ipatec Racing.

Kuipers will however not tackle his first WRC campaign in the Fiesta, as he used to drive an M-Sport-built Fiesta S2000 in selected events over the course of last season. He now becomes the first Dutch driver to confirm his presence in next year's WRC, even if only for 10 rounds. He did however reveal that should he find additional sponsorship in the months to come, he will try to enter all the 13 events in the 2011 calendar.

I will go for it 200 per cent,” said the 25-year old Dutch driver, according to the WRC official website. “First we have to get the experience because experience is everything but of course it will be really nice to get some points.”

I had a very good feeling with the Super 2000 car and because the base chassis will be the same for the World Rally Car I hope it will be a similar experience. Of course it will be a new engine and I will have to get used to the extra power but I hope my experience of driving the Fiesta [S2000] already will help. I’m really excited about next year. I know some of the [stages] now and the pacenotes I have maybe will help me,” he added.

M-Sport head Malcolm Wilson also expressed his excitement over getting to see Kuipers drive the new Fiesta RS WRC through the majority of the upcoming campaign.

It is a real pleasure to welcome Dennis back to the M-Sport family for 2011,” he said. “He produced a series of consistently strong results in the Fiesta S2000 this year and has shown progression throughout the year. Dennis was a joy to work with over the season and I look forward to welcoming him back into the team for next year.
