At the Tokyo Motor Show, KTM unveils their all-new electric scooter called E-SPEED.
Not long ago we reported the way KTM backed off a bit from the electric motorcycle project, as their CEO Stefan Pierer believed that the technology still has a long way to go until it will be truly feasible. However, it looks like Pierer was talking about bikes only, with scooters being a very good alternative.
The KTM E-SPEED comes with a 4.336 kWh lithium-ion battery: nothing to write home about, but with 2 hours needed for a full recharge suing a common household plug, we like it. Single-side WP suspension was only natural for a new KTM machine, while 220mm ABS regenerative brakes are a welcome addition.
However, the 14-inch alloy wheels are a killer feature for the belt-driven E-SPEED. There is no telling on whether or when will this scooter make it into production, but since Pierer adds that "vehicles like the E-SPEED and Freeride-E will help powered two-wheelers win back more acceptance in society" we might expect them to become reality. Commercial reality, that is.
