BMW unveils their first pedelec, baptized the Cruise, one more step into the realm of green, zero local emission vehicles. While this is definitely not a proper motorcycle, we could however, call it an "electric bike": it has a motor and two wheels, which means it belongs to the world of those who like the wind in their face.
BMW have been rather secretive with the specs, and so we can't really tell too much on the battery pack. The Bosch 250W motor offers assistance directly to the crankset at speeds up to 25 km/h (15 mph), and judging my the size of the battery we figure that it's nothing to write home about.

However, a very nifty addition to the world of electric two-wheelers is the 4-mode selector, allowing the rider to choose between Eco, Tour, Sport or Speed/Turbo. The announced range is 80 km (just under 50 miles), but BMW doesn't say much more: we can only guess the max range is linked to the Eco mode.

BMW will produce only 1,000 Cruises to be sold in Germany only, most likely for primary feedback from the market. No price and no official launch date have been announced.
