Klien's Manager Interested in Renault Vacancy

Since Robert Kubica's rally crash has set up the only vacancy in Formula 1 for the 2011 season, drivers from around Europe are taking the chances and announcing their availability for the Lotus Renault seat.

In only 2 days, since it was confirmed that Kubica will be out of action for the long run through 2011, a bunch of drivers have been linked with his racing seat. Some of the most important names that have made the headlines recently are those of Kimi Raikkonen, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Bruno Senna, Nick Heidfeld and Pedro de la Rosa.

And since a manager's job is to find his client a racing seat, Christian Klien's is doing just that nowadays. Talking to the Austrian news agency APA, Roman Rummenigge put his client's name on the Renault table. Whether the Enstone officials will have a look at it, that's a whole different story.

Until now, HRT was the only team with a free cockpit,” said Rummenigge, who failed to get Klien a racing seat with Hispania due to the high finances that were involved in securing that seat. “After the drama with Kubica I must of course follow my duty as manager and also consider Renault as an option.”

According to a recent report from Germany's Auto Motor und Sport however, Klien and all the other names suggested by the press recently are all trailing 33-year old Nick Heidfeld in the “battle” for the second Renault seat, since the German seems to be in pole position for that job. Despite refusing to comment on those rumors as a sign of “respect to Robert (Kubica)”, Heidfeld is clearly eyeing the Renault job for 2011.

The report added that the experienced German driver was in line for a reserve role with Mercedes GP, but his plans have changed with Kubica's vacancy.
