Kia UK Year-to-Date Sales, Higher than the Entire 2007

One of the fastest expanding brands in the world, South Korean manufacturer Kia announced today it managed to sell in the five months which have passed since the beginning of the year more vehicles than it has managed to sell in the entire 2007.

The feat has been accomplished in the UK, where the 4,194 new Kias sold top the 2007 sales number by 652 units. If we are to compare the 2010 figure with the one for the same period of 2009, Kia's sales are up no less than 113 percent.

“What a great achievement for Kia Motors in the UK. For me this underlines the development that has been going on across the brand. Each new car from Kia is providing more and more reasons for customers to take a fresh look at Kia and the products and services it has to offer," Michael Cole, Kia managing director said in a statement.

If you think this is just a fluke, think again. In the US for instance, the carmaker announced it has, once again, broken any and all May sales record in the US. For the month, Kia posted a 20.6 sales increase, which represents 31,431 units. The previous record, established in May 2008, stood at 31,047.

Of course, the path ahead is not without challenges. As the British government already ended what was perhaps among the most successful scrappage schemes in Europe (250,000 vehicles sold in six months), the momentum gained at the beginning of the year may be diminished as the months pass.

“But at Kia we remain confident and expect to set a new sales record this year. Not only do we have great momentum but we have the all new Sportage being launched later this year and 2011 will see us launching a whole raft of new cars.”
