Key duplication specialist KeyMe announces the debut of a new service which will become available stateside soon. The KeyMe self-service kiosk will allow motorcycle riders to order and obtain a duplicate key for their ride without the need to contact the dealership and at the same time cutting down costs significantly.
The technology uses digital imaging for obtaining a model of the scanned key but the system has taken things a step further, KeyMe CEO Greg Marsh says. The system is able to analyze and compensate for wear and tear in the keys being scanned, technically restoring the key to its original shape and thus offering a product of real value for the customer. Basically, if you are scanning an old key, the KeyMe kiosk will deliver you copies which are more accurate than the original.

Harley-Davidson, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Moto Guzzi motorcycles included in the debut program

So far, the KeyMe kiosks are able to offer support key for a large number of Harley-Davidson, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Moto Guzzi motorcycles, but this base will be expanded, the company says. Car and house keys are next, as well as other common locking devices, extending the practicality and convenience of using the self-service KeyMe kiosks.

This functionality will be available with the next generation of KeyMe kiosks. The official KeyMe website lists brass keys, car keys, lockouts, custom designs and hi-performance keys, so we are in for a new stage in the recovery of lost or damaged keys.

Data security is guaranteed by KeyMe

KeyMe says that customer data security is very important and the company will not be storing personal information which could be used to link individuals to locations or specific locks. All the data is stored in the cloud, and digitized keys can be reproduced later upon request. Authorization is obtained via fingerprint scan for verifying the identity of the person who wants to obtain a new key.

The keys will be shipped (with a tracking code) in under two days. In certain cases this might not be fast enough, but even so, this might prove to be a more convenient solution than traveling to your dealer and expecting a new key… which sometimes can be a very costly experience. The lowest KeyMe prices are $20 (€17.6) and a dedicated KeyMe iOS app is also available.

PS: Riders who own keyless bikes should pay just as much attention as before...
