Ken Block did not exactly experienced the testing session of his dreams prior to this weekend's Rally Great Britain, but that doesn't mean that the American will not attend the last round of the 2010 World Rally Championship this weekend. While trying to get the pulse of the GB stages ahead, doing some runs in the Greystoke test stage, Block crashed his car and damaged it heavily.
As there are slight chances of seeing his Ford Focus RS WRC repaired by the time Rally GB kicks off this weekend, he will use a replacement Focus RS WRC during the weekend.
The incident earlier this week was explained by Monster World Rally Team spokesman Brian Scotto, who reported to the media that “the in-car footage shows Ken was going through a left into a right-hand corner when the car aquaplaned on some water. The water pulled the car into the ditch and then into a tree.”
“Conditions were treacherous. There was a lot of slush around and in some places snow. It's caused a delay and cost Ken the afternoon's testing, but there's no question they will start the event on Thursday night. Ken and Alex are both fine,” added the MWRT spokesman.
Fortunately, neither Block nor his co-driver Alex Gelsomino sustained any injuries during the crash, meaning they will both be up and ready for the Rally GB recce, scheduled later today.
Ken Block will be trying keep his momentum inside the WRC in Wales, as he comes in Great Britain after his first point-scoring finish in the series this season. The Monster Rally driver was classified 9th in the Rally de Catalunya two weeks back.
