Kawasaki Recalls 2011 Ninja ZX-10R Due to Wiring Harness

The North American division of Kawsaki has recently posted a recall notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, announcing it has decided to take care of some problems involving the wiring harness of the model year 2011 Ninja ZX-10R/ ZX-10R ABS.

Affecting some 2,560 units from the respective models, the safety warning states that a short between wires and the frame or within wires could occur while in motion, which could result in the engine stopping suddenly. Naturally, this could lead to a crash and subsequently to injury or death.

“It is possible for a portion of the wiring harness to become pinched between the rear subframe and the rear fender or between the rear subfrrame and the bolt holding the seat cover. This can damage the harness and wiring and result in a short between wires and the frame or within wires, which could result in the engine stopping suddenly,” the NHTSA recall summary explains.

The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule, but they are invited to contact Kawasaki at 1-866-802-9381. As for the repairs, these will be conducted free of charge for the consumers.

The fix is a quality assurance measure investigated during testing for the 2012 model year and is being applied retroactively to existing 2011 units as a pre-emptive action.

Powering the 2011 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is a 998cc, 16-valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled inline-four engine, capable of developing 197 horsepower (or 207 horsepower with ram air in full effect).
