Opel’s Supervisory Board today appointed Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann chairman of the Management Board of Adam Opel AG, with the move becoming effective March 1, 2013. The executive was also named president of GM Europe and GM vice president.
Neumann previously served as CEO and vice president of Volkswagen Group China, being located in Beijing between September 2010 and August 2012.
The executive previously held a multitude of management roles within the VW Group, having joined the company in 1999, when he was appointed head of Group Research and director of Electronic Strategy. Neumann received the role of chief officer for Electric Traction for the VW Group back in December 2009.
Between 2004 and 2009, he was a member of the Executive Board, Automotive Systems Division at German automotive industry supplier Continental. The executive was also chairman of the Executive Board of Continental AG from August 2008 to September 2009.
Neumann was awarded a doctorate degree by the University of Dortmund and University of Duisburg, where he studied electrical engineering.
