Following a crash during practice on Thursday, ahead of the German Grand Prix, Jorge Lorenzo managed to bend the titanium plate holding the collarbone he fractured two weeks ago in Assen, the Netherlands. While being impossible for Lorenzo to race on Sunday, he flew to Barcelona and had the same medical team who operated him in the first place do the job once more.
A small piece of bone was extracted from his pelvis and mixed with dry bone, wand the implant should accelerate the formation of calus, helping the Spaniard heal the fracture faster.

The doctors removed the bend plate and had a new one installed, this time adding 10 instead of the initial 8 screws keeping it in place.

While on Saturday, the tuning forks announced that Jorge intended to come back after the summer break, for the Indianapolis round, Sunday saw a change of opinion, with the team saying they will travel to Laguna Seca and set up as usual, just in case Lorenzo will feel fit to race.

Wilco Zeelenberg, Team Manager for the Spaniard, declared that the team offers full support and understanding for the rider, whichever decision he would make in the end, and they'll be ready in case he would ride.
