Some call it plain bad luck, others call it karma, but the truth is still somewhere out there. Jorge Lorenzo reached his home in Palma de Mallorca to celebrate his third MotoGP world title, but the party didn't exactly start in a good way.
Lorenzo was revving an Yamaha YZF-R1 machine in the middle of the street, surrounded by fans and supporters assembled to greet and cheer the new world champion when the incident occurred.

The video below comes from the phone of one of the fellows present, and shows the very moment when steam gushes out of the bike from the left side, while Lorenzo was still astride the R1.

The 2015 MotoGP world champion can be seen jumping from the bike, while the bystanders manage to keep his Yamaha upright, thus avoiding the damage it would have surely taken when dropped.

Lorenzo went to a local hospital, but the doctors said his injuries were not severe

Apparently, one of the bike's coolant hoses ruptured while Lorenzo was revving the engine, and the hot liquid and steam gushed from the bike.

Movistar Yamaha's rider can be seen jumping off the bike holding his left leg and limping away. He is undoubtedly in pain, even if he was wearing the team's full leather gear, including race boots and all. They might serve as a great protection against abrasion, but their effectiveness against hot water and pressurized steam is quasi-inexistant.

Luckily, none of the individuals who were close to Jorge Lorenzo's bike was injured. Had hot water been sprayed on them, things could have been much worse.

The policemen made way to evacuate Lorenzo from the site and he was admitted to a local hospital. After being examined, the doctors said that his burns were not severe.

We'll let you decide whether this was a simple mishap, or, in one way or another, some sort of retribution for the scheming Rossi fans believe Lorenzo to have staged in the final round of the 2015 season. We'll stick to the facts for now, but you should feel free to have your say in this.
