Jerez Test Concludes with Nakajima on Top - Overall Results

McLaren Mercedes had another disappointing day at Jerez on Thursday, as the Woking-based team again bottomed the timing charts on their last day of testing before the Australian Grand Prix. One week away from the season opener, the British outfit suddenly doesn't seem that much of a front-runner after all. There were only two cars lapping the Jerez circuit on Thursday, as Williams F1 also decided to test their FW31 for one more time ahead of the new season. While McLaren were looking for a boost in performance in the eleventh hour, the Grove-based team decided to stay in Spain for one more day to test the revised FW31, as the car will not be featuring the skate fins anymore. Nevertheless, Kazuki Nakajima topped yesterday's testing with the best time of 1:17.494, almost half of second ahead of Kovalainen (1:17.946). The Japanese driver's time, however, was no less than 4 tenths of a second better than this week's best lap, set by Jenson Button on Tuesday. Talk about chaotic/controversial/unknown/intriguing testing pace this winter! After the very last test before the season opener has officially ended, we know that much: we can't possibly predict who's going to challenge for the Aussie win. No matter the testing times, we can all agree that the true pace of every single 2009 challenger will be unveiled at Albert Park. However, we do feel the need to give the statistics enthusiasts a final glimpse of what happened at Jerez during the past week. Day 1
