Jenson Button Scored Fastest Time in Turkey P2

McLaren Mercedes managed to finish the Friday action at Istanbul Park with a double-win performance, as reigning champion Jenson Button scored the best time of the day halfway through the second practice, ahead of Red Bull duo Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.

Both Button and teammate Lewis Hamilton started off the P2 action in a dominant fashion, setting the two fastest times of the session after a few runs. As compared to P1 however, Red Bull also entered the battle for 1st place, shortly after Button stopped the time at 1:28.280 (on soft tires). Sebastian Vettel was the first one to separate Button and Hamilton by setting a 2nd fastest time, after which Mark Webber made one more effort and got himself into the runner-up spot with almost 10 minutes to go.

Nevertheless, the day was not all smiles for the guys at Red Bull Racing, as Webber's RB6 car came to a halt some 5 minutes to the chequered flag (with smoke coming up from its rear). The Australian driver quickly pushed his car away from the track and moved slowly to the garage walking. Additionally, Vettel did not experience a perfect first day with Randy Mary either, as the German complained about poor water pressure in the last few minutes of the session.

With everyone using soft tires in the second part of the session and the rubber already settling inside the Istanbul track, the time gaps between the frontrunners were much closer. Hamilton had to settle for the 4th place – a perfect McLaren/Red Bull sandwich – while followed by Ferrari's Fernando Alonso.

Mercedes GP duo Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher scored the 6th and 7th quickest lap times, while followed by Renault duo Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov. Finally, the Top 10 was completed by Ferrari-an and 3-time Turkish GP winner Felipe Massa, who was the victim of a partial slide in Turn 8, ruining his tires in the process.
