Jenson Button's Mother Involved in Silverstone Hotel Fire

This could have been a sad and horrible weekend for McLaren Mercedes' champion Jenson Button, as his mother was one of the persons involved in the hotel fire that we've reported to you a few days back.

On Tuesday, it was brought to the media's attention that Premier Inn hotel, within a stone's throw of the Northamptonshire track, burned down. While more than 50 firefighters tried to save the building, it eventually disappeared from the face of the earth. The police announced that one woman was hospitalized as a result of the fire, which correlated with the fact that Button's mother Simone was a customer of the hotel at the time of the incident.

However, on Thursday, a statement from McLaren Mercedes confirmed that Simone Button was not the woman who was hospitalized and that she only lost some minor possessions in the fire.

She has lost a few possessions but other than that she is fine,” said the statement.

After being evacuated from the building, the patrons were taken to a hotel nearby. However, Button took his mom to a motor home this weekend, at Silverstone, so he'll know she's OK.

The reigning world champion can now focus on winning his first British Grand Prix in F1, in order to complete the magical “triad” of his racing career: Monaco GP win, a world title and a victorious outing at Silverstone.

The British Grand Prix will start off later today, 3 hours from now, when the first practice session is scheduled on the Silverstone track.
