Jeep Has the Potential to Save Chrysler, Analysts Think

Although reports published in the last few weeks were mostly focused on General Motors, it's no secret that all members of the Detroit 3 group are currently experiencing a very tough period, with extremely low sales and continuously screaming for government assistance. Despite news reporting that General Motors and Ford may run out of cash in early 2009, Chrysler may get out of the automotive industry much earlier than initially thought.

But even so, Chrysler may have an unexpected way for stepping outside the group of the recession-affected automakers: the Jeep brand which, according to analysts, has the potential to revamp Chrysler's sales much more than other Chrysler-owned firms.

CNW Marketing Research, an Oregon-based research firm, today issued a statement explaining that the Jeep brand has several advantages when compared to other brands in the context of global economic crisis.

“The Jeep brand is much cooler than Chrysler,” CNW mentioned in the report according to USNews, with several models especially targeting teenagers and off-roading trips. “CNW found that a Jeep vehicle is nearly twice as "acceptable" to friends, relatives, and colleagues as a Chrysler vehicle, which is considered more stodgy,” USNews wrote.

Secondly, the Jeep brand is mostly characterized by quality, with multiple vehicles scoring below average in the latest J.D. Power quality ratings report.

Last but not least, there are several old Jeep models that still “resonate”, such as Wagoneer, Renegade and Comanche, which could attract an important segment of buyers in case the parent company decides to roll out refreshed versions.

More importantly, it has been rumored that Chrysler may abandon a bunch of models, especially the ones wearing Dodge's signature, if the General Motors acquisition goes through. However, talks between General Motors and Chrysler's majority owner Cerberus Capital Managed failed, with America's No. 3 automaker still looking for companies willing to buy its production line.
