Getting a nice tan is very important for many people around the world, who flock to the beach every summer. However, they don`t seem to realize that they get bombarded by the Sun’s rays much more while they`re at the wheel of their car, stuck in traffic and with no shade in sight.
Harmful ultraviolet and infrared light penetrates the standard glass fitted to most cars, and it can cause serious skin conditions, and in a worst-case scenario, even cancer. Now, Japanese glass manufacturer Asahi Glass Co. or AGC is offering special tempered glass, which blocks out 99% of the harmful stuff, thus ensuring the occupants of the vehicle are thoroughly protected.

Their ‘new line’ of automotive glass, called UV Verre Premium Cool is actually the first of its kind, and it can already be found on the Japanese-market Toyota Vitz. Furthermore, it also helps lower the inside temperature, when the car is left out in the Sun, by as much as two degrees.

This high-tech glass will most likely be adopted (or become a legal requirement) for all manufacturers, in the not too distant future, and it is a welcome addition to the list of passive safety features fitted to our modern cars.
