More and more sportscar and luxury automobile makers that don’t operate under the wing of larger group are being forced to make city cars. The trend started with Aston Martin’s introduction of the Toyota iQ based Cygnet, and we thought the rest of Europe’s sportscar makers were safe.
But it looks like they weren’t because Jaguar needs one too, as their design boss, the respected Ian Callum, told What Car? he fancies a MINI-sized pouncing cat. “It would be a high-end small car for city use,” he said on the floor of the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.
He said this was just a smaller Jaguar, not an entry into the affordable city car market, but given that MINI was used as a reference, we’re not really surprised. We’re confident they can pull off something really original with this new thinking.
