The 2013 model year brings us a slightly refreshed range of Jaguars, with the biggest addition to the new XF range is the Sportbrake (estate) version, as well as two new petrol engines, which are available for both the sedan and the estate, as well as the larger XJ.
First of the two new engines is a turbocharged 2.0-liter unit with 240 hp and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft). It is a unit already available in the Range Rover Evoque where it does a very good job, so we expect more of the same for the XF and XJ. However, preformance-wise, despite the XJ being a larger car, it is in fact lighter thanks to its aluminium construction.
This enables the XJ to sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7 seconds dead - a full half a second quicker than the XF. The second new engine is the much talked-about supercharged V6. Displacing 3 liters, it has a maximum power output of 335 hp and 450 Nm. It pushes the both the XF and XJ from 0-100 km/h the same 5.7 seconds before topping out at an electronically limited 250 km/h (155 mph). This last engine replaces the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V6, providing simiar performance while using much less fuel in the process.
However, the petrol engines aren’t the only thing that Jaguar engineers have worked on for the 2013 model year cars. The smaller capacity diesel, the 2.2-liter fitted to the XF, has been given a revamp, with the entry level variant still offering 163 hp and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) and the more powerful version getting a 10 hp boost, to 200 hp and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). Also, along with the new and improved engines, Jaguar is now offering the eight-speed gearbox standard across the range, as well as Stop/Start for the V6 and V8 models in the range.
To round off the changes, the XF gets a mildly updated interior with a revised infotainment system, while the XJ gets a recalibrated suspension which should give it a smoother ride and bring it closer to matching the superbly smooth ride of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
