After falling short with the stunning XJ220, Jaguar are determined to get their upcoming range-extended electric supercar just right. Aside from the two electric motors which will be powering it (one on the front axle and one on the rear axle), it will also get a force-fed 1.6-liter four-pot unit which produces 500 hp.((That’s right, a 1.6 with 500 hp, as well as a red line very close to 10,000 rpm (9,800 to be precise)!
This impressive number has been achieved with the use of both a turbocharger and a supercharger to boost the unit at various engine speeds. It also uses both direct injection, as well as port-fed fuel injection, to make it both economical and flexible at the same time.

However, the C-X75 party piece will be its ability to travel on electricity alone for up to 60 km (40 mile), thanks to a 200 kg battery pack mounted right in front of the engine, as well as reaching 100 km/h in around 6 seconds. This figure drops below 3 seconds, when the gasoline engine kicks in and drives the rear wheels via a seven-cog automated manual transmission.

Now, courtesy of autocar.co.uk, you can listen to the 1.6-liter unit being revved very close to its limit, and making a surprisingly good noise in the process. This reminds us of BMW’s turbocharged F1 engine of the 1980s, when they managed to get a 1.5-liter unit all the way up to 1250 hp with the use of a gigantic turbo - that car also had gigantic lag, which is where the supercharger fitted to Jaguar’s engine comes in.

Jaguar will be making 200 C-X75 which will be priced somewhere around the £800,000 (€1,020,000 / $1,240,000) mark. No official launch date has been announced, so we can only hope that they encounter no hitches in the development of the car as they need a good supercar under their belt, and, better yet, a green one!
