Is this the Bentley Continental GT V8 RS?

Post-war Bentleys are not particularly known for being loud cars and yet we are here to talk about what is probably the... growliest Bentley we’ve ever seen. You don’t even have to pay attention to the Red Bentley prototype in the adjacent spy video, its soundtrack will make sure you notice it. Alas, when it comes to naming the creature, things aren’t all that simple.
Nonetheless, before we head out into the rumor mill zone, let’s go over the bespoke aspects of the spied car. Aside from the obvious aural details, this Continental GT sports two special aerodynamic modifications. The front apron is gifted with a splitter, while at the back we have a rather generous fixed wing, something we’re not used to seeing on road-going Bentleys.

Word has it that Bentley is currently working on an even spicier version of the Continental GT V8, the RS. If that turns out to be the truth, then we are dealing with the prototype here. The video (coming from Touriclips) offers us some pretty spectacular Nurburgring fly-bys.

We’ll remind you a Bentley test vehicle featuring the same elements was spotted last month. We contacted Bentley to ask about the car and were told “this car is merely a test vehicle for such parts, and is standard apart from a prototype rear wing, which is part of an aerodynamic study.”

Should Bentley actually release a Continental GT V8 RS, this will be the carmaker’s sportiest vehicle yet. Look at it this way: it will be the most powerful of the V8 and lighter than any of the W12s. Moreover, we’re expecting such a vehicle to receive a name closer to what Bentley has accustomed us with. The best example of this lies with the range-topping W12 model, named GT Speed.

Such a release would require yet another tweak for the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Interestingly enough, we’ve also heard rumors of Audi working on an RS6 Plus for the facelift of the model. This would take the V8 close to 600 hp. Bentley and Audi obviously tweak bits like the exhaust and intake independently, but perhaps somebody is doing team work here.
