Is the M2 Faster than a 1M or M4 Around a Race Track?

Steve Sutcliffe organized yet another track battle for Auto Express. This time, he chose a manual M2 instead of one with the DCT thinking that it would be better for track use. In reality, the time of 46.1 seconds is the same as thw set when the Porsche Macan was challenged.

So, the M2 is .3 of a second faster than the 1 Series M Coupe from many years ago, no matter the gearbox you choose. However, speed isn't everything. If you want an everyday car with occasional lunacy, the 2er is great. But if you're after the ultimate fun, its predecessor has more on offer.

As for the M4 Coupe, it's being tested with all the bells and whistles, including the auto and the competition package. Yes, it's faster than the M2 because of the extra power delivered thanks to the extra turbocharger, but the difference is small.

And it's not just the tiny track that's at fault here. From Motor Trend's road tests to the Nurburgring laps, the M2 has set lap records and won over the hearts of the people who have driven it.

In conclusion, Steve says, the less money you spend on your BMW, the better value you get. Of course, we knew that because the M6 and M5 are more expensive and not that brilliant.

The cool thing about BMW as a company is that if you don't want to use your coupe on the track, there are much cheaper alternatives, like the recently announced M240i. It too features a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine, just like every car in this test. However, this can be combined with all-wheel-drive and an 8-speed auto. You can't say the same thing about a Porsche Cayman or a Mercedes-AMG CLA 45, can you?
