The SVR version of the F-Type is not the prettiest thing in the world, but it almost matches the Audi R8 V10 Spider for performance. It also sounds the part, as we are about to prove with some needless but enjoyable exhaust footage.
For whatever reason, Jaguar sent over seven SVRs to its Nurburgring facility. Maybe they have a launch event planned, or they're after a big record. Whatever the reason, the beauties arrived from Britain and had to be unloaded from the trailer. As the cold V8 engines roared to life, the sound they make will turn vegetarians to cannibals.
Even the entry-level V6 S we tested a few years ago sounds better than most supercars, but the SVR is not only about that or the look. With a re-tuned supercharged 5-liter engine, this bad boy will top out at around 200 miles per hour.
Unlike the XKR S or something like it from the past, the F-Type SVR is not an unruly beast. It features all-wheel-drive, torque vectoring and smarter suspension. While the body kit attracts too much attention, we can't help but feel drawn the carbon fiber wing, something every petrolhead must dream of (secretly or not).
Jaguar claims that this is an all-weather supercar. However, the engine is in the wrong place, and Huracan has twice the curb appeal, cool exhaust or not. At £110,000 the SVR Coupe is nearly as much as a V10-powered Audi R8. So then, it's a car for Jaguar's purest, most loyal customers.
There are a couple of chinks in the armor. For example, the gearbox is the same 8-speed automatic everybody uses. From the Bentley Bentayga to the Audi S5, we keep hearing that it's not sharp enough for a sportscar of any kind. But Jaguar has always said there's a certain relaxed nature to all the cars it makes, so even the hardcore ones must be comfortable.
