Inspirational Bentley Engineer Awarded

A British Bentley apprentice, Charlotte Gough (20) has received the Mary George Memorial Prize for Apprentices 2010 awarded by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), with the distinction being received during a prestigious ceremony that was recently held in London.

The IET is a top professional society that promotes the positive role of science, engineering and technology and has over 150,000 members from all around the world. The award recognizes the best female apprentice engineers in the UK today. It also highlights the achievements of women in engineering, aiming to attract more females to this profession.

Charlotte received an engraved trophy, a certificate and a cheque for GBP750. She will be invited to take part in high profile events where she will have the opportunity to establish social connections with top names in engineering.

Charlotte, who is an auto-electrical apprentice, was selected as someone who went past the normal duties of engineering. She has brought special contributions to school liaison activities and career fairs that attract young people to follow a career in engineering.

I knew from an early age that I wanted to work with cars and my apprenticeship at Bentley Motors has given me the opportunity to fulfil this passion – working on the development of fantastic products such as the Bentley Mulsanne and the New Continental GT has been a brilliant opportunity and winning this award is the icing on the cake,” Charlotte said.

We are very proud of Charlotte’s achievement.  She is a remarkable young engineer and we are delighted that her skills, enthusiasm and dedication have been recognised by one of the UK’s leading professional engineering societies,” Christine Gaskell, Member of the Board for Personnel at Bentley Motors said.
