Infiniti Targets 10% Share of the Chinese Luxury Segment

Like many other companies selling cars in China, Infiniti also has high expectations from what has recently became the number one car market for several major brands. Nissan's luxury division intends to raise its local share to up to 10 percent in the next few years and, in order to reach its goal, the company has already sketched an investment plan.

Toru Saito, vice president of Nissan Motor Corporation, said in an interview for the Yangtze River Business that China is currently Infiniti second-largest market but could become the number one in the future if everything goes according to the plan. China is also one of the fastest-growing markets for Infiniti, so the company can only hope for better sales performance in the future.

Infiniti will thus pay more attention to new products and the technology they are equipped with, with particular focus on efficiency and emissions. The brand will import new models in China, including small-displacements, electric and hybrid vehicles, all of them supposed to tackle the demand for fuel efficient cars in the country.

Just like its parent manufacturer Nissan, who has recently emphasized that a significant growth in China, India and other emerging markets is regarded as a priority, Infiniti wants to work on the dealership network as well, with the intention of opening new stores in the future. At this point, it has a total of 25 showrooms in China, but Nissan's plans are projecting more than 100 stores in the next years.

Toru Saito claims Infiniti has already reached its sales goal in 2010 in China, as the company has exceeded 10,000 sold units this year, representing a more than 100 percent increase over the last year.
