Infiniti Preparing Performance Division

Now that the German Power War has ended, the Japanese have decided to transform the whole story into a World War, as Infiniti will is on its way to announce the birth of a new performance division, that would be used to fight against Mercedes’s AMG and BMW’s M units.

Nissan, the owner of Infiniti, has applied for trademark protection for the names Infiniti Performance Line and IPL in the U.S.

The application states that the names will be used for “high performance motor vehicle parts,” covering both engine components, such as turbochargers, suspension and braking systems and other equipment including sport vehicle interior components.

At the beginning of the month, U.S. Infinity officials dropped a time bomb, saying that the automaker will introduce a performance vehicle this summer. However, the executives did not mention the market that the upcoming high-performance car is destined for.

Infiniti’s move would not only threaten the German automotive producers, but also Lexus, who uses the IS-F to play in the “go-fast” market segment.

It seems difficult to guess what approach will be used by the Japanese premium automaker. In other words, the company could choose to offer just a sporty vehicle or could put the pedal to the metal and decide to make important investments in the project, just like Nissan has done with the GT-R.

Either way, the company has to pay an infinite amount of attention to details, as the ending of the power war does not mean that the Germans have stopped their pursuit for performance - they have only decided to seek other means (than brute force) to achieve it.
