Indian GP Track Named Buddh International Circuit

Despite all the uncertainty regarding the well-going of the inaugural Indian Formula 1 Grand Prix this year, the organizers of the aforementioned grand prix are going ahead as planned with the development of the event. And the new step taken towards that direction was the naming of the venue.

During a launch event late last week, the Indian organizers have revealed the name of the track, alongside its official logo.

The name 'Buddh International Circuit' has been chosen with reference to the area where the racetrack is situated - Gautam Budh Nagar district (near Greater Noida). Because of its location, naming the circuit 'Buddh International Circuit' was a logical choice for the company,” said a statement from Jaypee Sports, official organizers of the F1 race in India.

Less than two weeks back, Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone had announced that the inaugural Indian Grand Prix, to be held on the 3.194-mile track now named Buddh International Circuit, will start at 3 PM local time, in order to better suit the audiences in Europe.

What this means is that UK viewers will tune in their TV on Sunday, October 30, at 9.30, while Central Europeans will do the same one hour later, at 10.30. Finally, Eastern Europeans will get to sleep more, as the race will start at 11.30 local time.

The Buddh International Circuit is located in Greater Noida, some 30 miles from New Delhi, and is spread over 875 acres of land. The circuit itself is designed by Ecclestone's favorite man Hermann Tilke, with lap times expected to be in the vicinity of one minute and 17 seconds.
