While introducing the 2014 i20 WRC race car in Germany earlier this week, Hyundai has confirmed it will be launching a series of high performance road cars under its new N sub-brand.
The South Korean automaker says Hyundai N will be used to bring together the company’s technology and innovation “with the learning from motorsport to provide a new experience for customers”. In case you’re wondering what N stands for, the manufacturer says it takes inspiration “in both name and spirit” from the Namyang R&D Centre that helped Hyundai Motorsport develop the i20 WRC.

Hyundai declined to go into specifics, but added that the N letter will appear on “future mass-produced high performance cars”.

The new N sub-brand will be based in Alzenau, on the outskirts of Frankfurt, in Germany. The same location will also act as the base for Hyundai's new Shell World Rally Team, which will make its debut in the 2014 World Racing Championship in January.
