It’s a little-known fact, but hyundai used to have a rally team in 2000 to 2003, one which used an Accent. Recently, a Veloster rally car has recently been unveiled, but to keep the fans happy, Hyundai today announced it’s entering the big leagues as well. The i20 supermini has been turned into the the little moster that will soon race in the WRC, the World Rally Championship.
The rally car is on show at Paris Motor Show, but it’s not quite ready yet. The i20 rally car is being developed at Hyundai’s European headquarters at Offenbach, Germany and should be ready to race other newcomers like the Polo R, as well as established racers like the Citroen DS3 and Ford Fiesta.

“The World Rally Championship is recognized as one of the most dramatic sporting series on Earth”, said Hyundai Motor Europe marketing director Mark Hall. “It’s a spectacle filled with excitement and dynamism − the perfect embodiment of the Hyundai brand.”
