Wilson Secures 6-Event Deal in 2011 WRC

Matthew Wilson will compete in the 2011 World Rally Championship for at least 6 events, as confirmed by the M-Sport Stobart World Rally Team earlier this week. And although that might not seem as such a big deal, considering the British driver's recent programmes in the WRC, Wilson is ecstatic about getting to drive the Fiesta RS WRC until Rally Acropolis.

Prior to the start of the 2011 campaign, his thoughts into the new season extended only to the first round, rally Sweden, as he hadn't managed to secure the necessary funding for a more complex programme. Now, according to the WRC official website, his 2011 schedule includes the Mexico, Portugal, Jordan, Italy and Argentina events.

Everything’s in place up until Greece, which is brilliant really,” said Wilson, who believes this is a great opportunity to find some extra sponsors between now and Rally Acropolis that would help him do a complete 2011 season with Stobart.

Hopefully by being out on the rallies it will make the job of getting things in place for the rest of the year that bit easier.

Following his 9th place performance in Rally Sweden, Wilson and co-driver Scott Martin will now head to Mexico for at least a redo of than rally finish. According to father Malcolm, who is currently heading Ford's operations in the WRC, the 6-event deal should give Matthew the peace he needs to focus solely on driving the best out of his Fiesta RS WRC.

Matthew’s programme has now been confirmed until Greece and he should be able to concentrate more on his driving now that his programme for the year has become more secure,” said the Ford boss.
