Honda has been preparing their first solid steps into the electric motorcycle industry for quite some time now, and the Japanese manufacturer now announces the construction of a special test track dedicated to developing e-bikes and cars. And since a new testing track was barely news, here's the catch: the project is 100% self-sustainable by means of solar panels harvesting the required energy.
No less than 70,000 solar panels will be installed across an area of 33 hectares, with the track and adjacent facilities spreading across some other 25 hectares.
This carbon-neutral “raceway” will be around 4 km long (2.48 mi) and will be the base camp for the development of bikes such as the TT Zero Shinden Ni, the RC E electric bike concept or the EV-neo e-scooter.
The automotive segment of Honda's operations will also benefit from the track, as cars such as the CR-Z, Insight or Jazz hybrids will be tested and developed.
Based in the Sakura region of the Tochigi prefecture, Honda's pioneer zero-impact circuit is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2015.
