Japanese carmaker Honda announced the restyled 2009 Element, an entry-level SUV which now comes with several improvements concerning both the exterior and the interior.
Let's start off with the exterior. Having a look at the new Honda Elements instantly unveils a reshaped grille and front bumper combined with restyled front fenders (which are not made of metal, in comparison with the previous ones made of composite material) plus new headlights and taillights configurations.
The interior, on the other hand, now comes with brighter color schemes with new fabric patterns and revised switchgear designs as well as a restyled low-profile console available as standard on the LX version.
"The Element's key strength is a spacious, versatile and rugged interior that adapts quickly and conveniently to people and cargo," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "For 2009, the enhancements strengthen the totally unique original concept with more refinement and functionality."
MY 2009 Honda Element is powered by a 2.4-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine combined with a standard 5-speed manual transmission (a 5-speed automatic transmission comes as an option). The traction control is enhanced with the help of Honda's Real Time 4WD available on both the LX and the EX variants, while the sport-tuned SC only features a 2WD system.
Honda says the new Element will provide numerous high-tech features including a 4-speaker AM/FM audio system with CD player support available as standard on the LX variant. Moreover, the EX and the SC versions include a 270-watt audio system with MP3 and WMA support, seven speakers and 6.5-inch subwoofer as well as Honda's XM Satellite Radio feature.
Apart from all of these functions, Element EX and SC are fitted with Honda's Satellite-Linked Navigation System plus a rear backup camera and an USB audio interface. The navigation system is based on a 6.5-inch display and provides voice recognition and audio control capabilities.
