Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) announces the inauguration of their third plant in India. The new manufacturing facility spans across 96 acres (388,500 square meters) and is located in Narsapura Area in the Kolar district of Karnataka.
According to Autocar India, the new Honda plant is currently producing 1.2 mil units a year, but this is only Phase 1 of development. HMSI plans to supplement this capacity by a whopping 600,000 units annually and thus reach a 1.8 mil units production rhythm by the end of 2014. Together with the other two existing plants, Honda will be able to raise production to a massive 4.6 million units a year.

Honda also claims the new plant in Karnataka is the most environmentally-friendly operation, with a rain harvesting system which is said to produce around 30% of the total annual water needs and no liquid discharge.
